Overcoming wartime challenges - Ukrainian company GoWombat and Alfa eCare collaborate to launch modern Epsilon app for IOS
GoWombat, a developing company based in Ukraine, in collaboration with architects, product owners and developers at Alfa eCare, is developing a new and modern version of the Epsilon app that is compatible with both Android and IOS phones. Peter Lindell, CTO at Alfa eCare, shares his experience of connecting with GoWombat and provides an update on the progress of their work. Meanwhile, Sulley Ahmed, a representative from GoWombat, sheds light on the challenges of operating in a country at war.
Teams connected by Developer Shore early on during the war
A while back Peter Lindell, CTO at Alfa eCare, established a connection with Developers Shore, a company that specializes in connecting Swedish companies with near-shore developers. This is the first time Alfa eCare has hired consultants through Developers Shore although Peter has had contact with them for several years.
–When we got in contact with GoWombat it was a smooth transition to start the Epsilon IOS project. GoWombat was found to be professional and delivering high-quality services, with a specialization in React Native, the technology used for the app. They carried out a comprehensive pre-study to familiarize themselves with the app and presented a compelling plan, Peter Lindell says.
According to Peter, there were initial concerns about the impact of the war on the work and all those involved in the project, especially the team in Ukraine. Despite the increased risk of unavailability among delelopers, they have a dire need of income.
– GoWombat has effectively managed staffing and smoothly dealt with any turnover, leading to minimal disruption to the work. It has affected the work surprisingly little, Peter says.
-For the success of this project, we hade to be ready to respond to questions quickly and Christian Davén, Daniel Lindestav and Jonas Ehlin from Alfa eCare, have performed exceptionally well. While we prefer to keep the expertise and personnel inhouse, outsourcing during high-demand periods can serve as a useful solution. We have had positive experiences working with GoWombat and would be open to collaborating with more Ukrainian developers. Currently, we are in discussions about a few new projects, Peter Lindell says.
War has not stopped GoWombat from expanding
According to Sulley Ahmed, GoWombat has been impacted by the ongoing war, but they have succesfully sustained operations through their anti-crisis plan. This included evacuation employees and their families to safe areas and opening a new bransch in Valencia, Spain to prevent work disruptions. The company enjoys a strong working relationship with Swedes, particularly Alfa eCare, known for their favorable market reputation.
Despite wartime difficulties, including electricity supply issues, the company has continued to expand and enhance their expertise. To guarantee stable energy and communication, they have equipped offices with independent sources such as batteries, generators, and Starlink. Additionally, they are upgrading work equipment with modern laptops for increased mobility, says Sulley.
Looking to the future, GoWombat plans to complete phase four of the current project with Alfa eCare and make a successful release.
– We are also discussing the creation of a code module database for future efficiency. Despite the challenges of creating an IOS mobile app version of the existing Android app, we are confident in our choices and are motivated to continue to deliver at the highest level for both our own growth and that of our clients, Sulley Ahmed says.
