The City of Gothenburg chooses Alfa eCare Welfare for safer and smarter home care planning

When the City of Gothenburg procured new IT support for home care planning, the choice fell on Alfa eCare Welfare and the Planning module. With a focus on continuity, quality and sustainable staffing, the city is now strengthening its digital support for both operations and employees.

Focus on the right effort, at the right time, with the right skills

The procurement was based on a comprehensive current situation and needs analysis. The goal was clear: IT support that helps the business plan so that the right employees are in the right place at the right time, while strengthening personnel continuity, predictability in the workday and the ability to follow important key figures.

- Home care is a complex business with many parameters to consider. We need systems that support both planning and follow-up in a structured way., says Anna Samuelsson, operations developer in the home care, elderly and health and care administration department in the City of Gothenburg.

An important part of the city's digitalization journey

The introduction of Alfa eCare Welfare is part of the City of Gothenburg's work on digitalization in social services. The elderly and care administration is working long-term to meet the welfare challenge through more efficient processes, systematic quality work, sustainable staffing and a good work environment.

- We need modern IT support that contributes to both quality for care recipients and a good working day for managers and employees. Alfa eCare Welfare is a tool in that work, says Åsa Wall, operations developer in the home care, elderly and health and care administration department in the City of Gothenburg.

A business-oriented approach

A key success factor in the project has been the strong operational support. The City of Gothenburg created several forums with broad representation from operations, management, IT and other key roles. These forums were used for information dissemination, system configuration, decisions on working methods and various training initiatives.

- We placed importance on involving the business early and continuously to create the conditions for a good implementation, which created both commitment and well-founded decisions about working methods and system support., says Åsa Wall.

Support for both everyday life and long-term development

Since a digital and mobile way of working was already established, the introduction of Alfa eCare Welfare did not require any fundamental change. Instead, the focus could be placed on learning the functions of the new IT support and opportunities for further development. Alfa eCare Welfare gives care staff access to updated information in real time and creates the conditions for structured follow-up and quality work.

- Now that the system is operational, we look forward to working on the details and developing its use even further, both in planning and in app support for the business., says Anna Samuelsson.

A comprehensive and educational introduction

If the home care service in the City of Gothenburg could sum up the journey in three words, it would be: comprehensive, challenging and educational.

- We have learned a lot about governance, collaboration and how to organize large operational implementations in complex organizations., says Åsa Wall.

Inspiration for other municipalities

To other municipalities facing similar initiatives, the City of Gothenburg particularly highlights the importance of broad involvement and clear governance:

- Through a forum with representation from all stakeholders and a committed management, we created good conditions for a successful implementation. This is something we are happy to share with others., concludes Anna Samuelsson.
